Most questions come down to one macOS permission. If yours doesn't, write to hello@liquidwave.app — we usually answer within a few business days.

01

Requirements

LIQUIDWAVE requires macOS 14.2 (Sonoma) or later and runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. System-audio capture uses Core Audio Taps, the system API Apple introduced in macOS 14.2 — no virtual audio drivers, no kernel extensions.

02

“LIQUIDWAVE isn't receiving audio”

If music is playing but the visualizer sits still, macOS is almost certainly blocking the tap. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone (on newer versions of macOS: System Audio Recording), enable LIQUIDWAVE, then switch the source off and back on in the app. The prompt appears only once, so if it was dismissed the switch stays off until you flip it here.

03

Apple Music shows nothing

DRM-protected streams — Apple Music rentals in particular — are silenced by macOS for every capture API, LIQUIDWAVE included. This is the operating system enforcing the content license, not a bug. Purchased or DRM-free tracks visualize normally, and Listen Mode (the microphone path) works with anything your speakers are playing.

04

Choosing a source

The bottom transport switches between System (everything your Mac plays, or one specific app) and Listen (the microphone — tuned for turntables, cassette decks, radio, and the room itself). Local audio files can be opened directly and are visualized while they play.

05

Keyboard

  • ↑ / ↓Cycle styles
  • ← / →Cycle scenes within the active style
  • ⌃⌘FFull screen

The on-screen controls appear when you move the mouse and fade out four seconds after it stops.
